Lady Pioneers swept by TC3

The Alfred State softball team was swept by the defending NJCAA Division III Champions on Saturday.  ASC fell 11-2 and 15-9 to Tompkins Cortland CC to fall to 13-19 (10-15) on the season.

In the opener, TC3 scored eight in the 1st inning to take full control of the game.  ASC was held to just five hits with Charise Nankivell (Hornell) finishing 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

In the nightcap, ASC tied the game a high scoring contest at 9-9 with three runs in the 6th only to see the Lady Panthers score six runs in the bottom half of the inning.  Three errors keyed the game-winning rally.

Heather Gerace (Avon) led the way with a 3 for 4 day while Nankivell was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.  Jackie Dresser (South Seneca) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI, Natalie Sylvester (Perry) was 2 for 4 with a RBI, and Sam Smithgall (Perry) was 2 for 4.  Angela Depew (Wellsville) also collected two hits.

The Pioneers scheduled doubleheader at Jefferson CC was cancelled on Sunday so ASC awaits word if they have earned a spot in the Region III Division III Tournament.
