Employees Participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day

Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® DayAlfred State College employees once again participated in the annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day in April. This event is open to employees’ children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews between the ages of nine and 15; this year, 25 children participated. Participants enjoyed interactive learning activities, including career exploration; job shadowing with the parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle; a campus tour; and some fun and games. Again this year, students worked on a community service project, making 10 fleece blankets which were donated to other children through Project Linus. Additionally, children participated in chemistry, nursing, and karate demonstrations and a geocaching activity. A complimentary lunch was provided for the children by ACES, the colleges dining and vending corporation. Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day is designed to expand opportunities for girls and boys, expose them to what adults in their lives do during the work day, show them the value of their education, and give them an opportunity to share how they envision their future. It is intended to be more than a career day. Each year, workplaces and adults around the country recognize its benefits and participate in the program to support our nation’s daughters and sons. Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work® Day program was founded by the Ms. Foundation for Women to create an opportunity for girls and boys to share and communicate their expectations for the future.
