Lady Pioneers Sweep Past Blazers
The Alfred State College softball team remained perfect at home with a doubleheader sweep of Niagara CCC on Tuesday afternoon. ASC rallied for a 5-4 victory in game one and then won the nightcap 10-1.
Angela Depew (Wellsville) capped a four-run 7th inning with a game ending two out single to lift the Lady Pioneers to the victory in game one. Amber Harding (Fillmore) singled home a run to start the rally and Kate Bailey (West Valley) connected on a two-run single to tie the game.
Stephanie White (Wantagh) and Heather Gerace (Avon) were each 2 for 3 on the day while Depew finished 2 for 4. Charise Nankivell (Hornell) earned the win on the mound allowing seven hits and four walks while striking out nine.
In game two, ASC broke open the contest with a seven run 2nd inning. Nankivell earned the win on the mound with three shutout innings and finished 2 for 3 with a three RBI triple. Depew was 2 for 3 with her 4th homer of the season while Bailey finished 2 for 2 with two runs scored.
The Lady Pioneers improve to 8-8 on the season and 5-4 in Region III Division III play. ASC travels to Genesee CC for another regional doubleheader slated for a 3 p.m. start.
