Lax Downs Mercyhurst North East

The Alfred State College lacrosse team snapped a six game losing streak with a 8-6 victory over Mercyhurst North East on Saturday at Pioneer Stadium.  The win improves the Pioneers to 2-6 overall and and 2-4 in Region III play.

Tyler Baird (Corning West) scored with 8:26 remaining in the 3rd quarter to break a 3-3 tie and start a three-goal run to give ASC a lead they would never give up.  Tony Micelotta (Irondequoit) and James Moss (Hilton) followed with tallies to give ASC a 6-3 lead.  MNE scored the next two goals but Anthony Amoroso (Jamestown) and Chase Bailey (Corning West) scored to up the lead back to three and seal the victory.

Moss led the way with two goals and an assist while Amoroso had two goals.  Micelotta and Bailey had a goal and a assist while Ryan Speciale (Corning West) passed out two helpers.  Baird and James Battaglini (Vestal) both scored a goal while Mike Harris picked up an assist.

In net, Jon Shumway (Oneonta) made seven save to record the victory.

The blue & gold conclude their three-game homestand on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. contest with Monroe CC.
