Lady Pioneers Sweep Lazers

Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The Alfred State softball team evened up their record with a doubleheader sweep of Onondaga CC, 7-1 & 9-2, on Saturday afternoon.  ASC is now 6-6 (3-2 Region III Division III) on the season.

In the opener, the Lady Pioneers erased an early 1-0 deficit with a four run 1st inning keyed by Angie Depew's (Wellsville) two-run inside the park homer, her third of the season.  Charise Nankivell (Hornell) allowed no earned runs and just three hits while striking out seven to earn the win and was 2 for 2 at the plate.  Jacke Dresser (South Senceca) chipped in two hits in three at bats and drove in a run.

In the nightcap, ASC scored five runs in the 4th to break a scoreless tie.  They added two in the 4th and 6th to secure the sweep.  Amber Harding (Fillmore) was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, Depew was 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Nankivell threw five shutout innings to earn the victory on the mound.

The blue & gold have now won four straight and will travel to Herkimer CCC on Sunday for a 1 p.m. double dip with the Lady Generals.  ASC and HCCC met twice in Myrtle Beach, SC earlier in the year with Herkimer winning both contests.
