ASC Can't Rally vs. Cumberland, Fall to Northampton

The Alfred State College softball left the tying run on base in the 7th inning in a 5-3 loss to Cumberland (NJ) County College and then were shutout 8-0 by Northampton (PA) CC in their second game.  The Lady Pioneers are now 1-5 at Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In the opener, Cumberland jumped out to a 2-0 1st inning lead and never relinquished it.  ASC closed it to 2-1, 4-3, and had two runners on base in the 7th but could never tie or take the lead.  Kate Bailey (West Valley) was 2 for 3 with two doubles, a run scored, and a stolen base while Samantha Smithgall (Perry) was 2 for 4 with a run scored.  Charise Nankivell (Hornell) pitched well in defeat allowing two earned runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

Bailey and Angela Depew (Wellsville) were the lone Pioneers to collect hits as ASC fell to Northampton in the nightcap.  The Spartans improve to 5-2 on the season.

The blue & gold wrap up their spring trip on Thursday with a 10:30 a.m. contest versus Massasoit (MA) CC and a Noon game versus Herkimer CCC.
