Lady Pioneers Split Season Opener

The Alfred State College softball team defeated Genesee CC 10-2 and fell 11-1 to Herkimer CCC as they opened up their 2010 season in Myrtle Beach, SC.

In the opener versus GCC, Charise Nankivell (Hornell) earned the victory on the mound and chipped in to the offensive attack.  Nankivell allowed five singles and one earned run in six inning of work while striking out five to earn her first collegiate victory.  At the plate she was 2 for 4 with an RBI. 

Angela Depew (Wellsville) finished 3 for 4 with 3 RBI and three runs scored, Natalie Sylvester (Perry) was 2 for 3 with a RBI double, and Jackie Dresser (South Seneca) was 1 for 3 with two runs scored and two stolen bases.  ASC scored three in the 2nd, one in the 3rd and 5th, and ended the game with five in the 6th.

Herkimer used a solid offensive attack to down ASC in the Pioneers second game.  The blue & gold offense was held to just five hit.  Depew was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing 2 for 3 with a solo homer.

The Lady Pioneers continue their week long trip at Myrtle Beach on Tuesday with another doubleheader.  ASC takes on Mercer County CC at 9 a.m. and Sussex County CC at 10:30 a.m.
