Submitted by WelkerPM on Sun, 03/14/2010 - 5:21pm

After having the first two days of their spring trip washed out the Alfred State College baseball team opened up their 2010 season with two victories.  ASC downed Montgomery (MD) Rockville) 14-5 on Saturday evening and then downed Massasoit (MA) CC 4-3 on Sunday.

Rockville jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first half inning but the blue & gold scored five in the 1st, two in the 2nd, two in 3rd, and put the game out of reach with five in the 5th.  Joe Wallace (Avoca) led the nine-hit attack with a 3 for 4, 3 RBI day while Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) finished 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.  Tyler Mann (Holland Patent) allowed two earned in six innings of work to earn the victory.  He walked three and struck out six.

ASC rallied from a 1-0 deficit with single runs in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th innings in their victory over Massasoit.  The Pioneers held off a 7th inning rally to seal the victory.  Mark Ciccotti (Horsheads) allwoed two earned runs in seven innings of work.  He retired 15 out of 16 batters in the middle five innings.  JP Frey (Erie, PA/McDowell) led the offense with a 3 for 4 day.  He hit a long triple and drove in a run.

The Pioneers will take the field again this evening at 10 p.m. when they make-up a rained out game vs. ASA Institute (Brooklyn, NY).
