Lady Pioneers Lose Close One, Brooks Eclipses 1,000 points

The Alfred State College women's basketball team fell 61-59 to Niagara CCC in their regular season finale.  In the contest sophomore Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) eclipsed scored her 1,000 career point to become the first Lady Pioneer to reach the milestone.

ASC led 36-29 at half but the Trailblazers were able to outscore the Pioneers 32-23 in the second half to pick up their first conference victory of the season.

Brooks was the lone Pioneer in double-figures finishing with a game-high 28 points.  She now has 562 points on the season and 1,017 points in her career.  Brooks also pulled down 16 rebounds, was credited with four steals, and had three blocks.

Kim Winquist (Wilson) and Shadeeka Campbell (Brooklyn/William Grady) each finished with six while Amanda Blake (Cuba Rushford) added five.  ASC shot 41.4% from the field but was slowed by 9 for 16 foul shooting and 25 turnovers.

Karrissa Dolney led the Blazers with 22 points and 20 rebounds while Margo Pagano chipped in 17 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Pioneers (11-15) will be the #5 seed in next week's Region III Division II Tournament.  ASC will most likely take on Erie CC in their first round contest on Wednesday.  Official seeding announcement will be made on Monday.
