Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

The Alfred State College men's basketball team led for most of their WNYAC contest versus Genesee CC but the Cougars mounted a second half comeback outscoring ASC 40-25 to earn a 67-61 victory.  The Pioneers fall to 11-16 overall and 5-7 in WNYAC play.

The Pioneers led by nine at half, 36-27, and by as many as eleven in the second half.  GCC climbed back into the game and used two clutch three-pointers by Kenton Chan-Man in the final minutes to tie the game and take the lead.  ASC had a chance to tie the game with less than 30 seconds but turned the ball over.

Chan-Man led the Cougars with 15 points, all in the second half, off the bench.  Leon Nelson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, Dashiem Cherry had 12 points, and Quintin Redfern finished with 11.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) led the blue & gold with a game-high 24 points.  Yanni Gobezai (Bethesda, MD) added 14 points, Rasean Parris (Brooklyn/Benjamin Banneker) chipped in eight, and Chris Dalton (Elmira Southside) and Brendan Letteer (Odessa Montour) each had six.  Letteer added a team high 12 rebounds.

The Pioneers shot 37.7% from the field, 33.3% from three, and 77.8% from the foul line while the Cougars shot 34.4% from the field, 31.6% from three, and 51.5% from the line.  GCC held a 47 to 39 advantage on the boards.

ASC returns to action for their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday when they host Erie CC.  Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m.
