Student's Cake Sculpture a Hit

Submitted by HoyerSM on Fri, 02/12/2010 - 3:24pm

Nicole Wagner with breast cancer cakeWhat would you do if your mother had successfully battled breast cancer and was the guest of honor at a party celebrating that victory? If you’re Nicole Wagner, Fulton, a third-year bakery intern in the culinary arts: baking, production and management program at Alfred State College, you bake her a bust—literally! To show her mom how proud she was of her, Nicole combined her bakery and artistic talents (and four sheet cakes) to sculpt a woman’s torso from cake (“held together by a bunch of dowels,” laughs Nicole). Clad in pink, with pink breast cancer ribbon adornment, the cake sculpture was a hit at the party, particularly with the guest of honor, says Nicole.
