Former Pioneer Sanchez Signs Pro Deal

Former Alfred State College baseball player Jose Sanchez has signed his first professional baseball contract.  Sanchez recently signed with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.

Sanchez, a right-handed shortstop from San Cristobal, Venezuela, began his career at Alfred State in the 2005.  During his two years wearing the blue & gold, Sanchez hit .364 with 35 doubles, 13 triples, and nine homers.  He drove in 98 runs, scored 134 runs, and stole 26 bases. 

While at ASC, he was named All-WNYAC twice and All-Region III twice.  He was also named the Region III Player of the Year and NJCAA 1st team All-American.

After completing his career at Alfred State, Sanchez transferred to Delaware State where he was an All-MEAC second team selection and a 2009 Wallace Watch National Player of the Year canidate.  He hit .347 with six home runs and 30 RBIs in 49 games as a junior in 2008.  In 45 games as a senior in 2009, he hit .291 with 28 RBIs while committing only seven errors. 

Sanchez also spent two summers playing in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.  Both seasons he was named to the NYCBL All-Star game and in 2008 he was named the MVP of the All-Star game.

The Frontier League features 12 teams that play a 98-game schedule from May until the beginning of September.  The Otters open up their 2010 season on May 21st versus the Normal CornBelters.
