Printer-friendly versionPrinter-friendly version

Dr. John O. Hunter and Octavia Alston-WilsonDr. John O. Hunter, president emeritus of Alfred State College (1986-93), met with members of the Alfred State College Honors Program recently to address “the power of poetry.” Dr. Hunter spent the summer in Scotland studying and absorbing both the poetry and the spirit of Scotland’s favorite, Robert Burns. In addition to reciting several of Burns’ poems, Hunter recited poems by Irish poet William Butler Yeats and by Robert Frost. Hunter also read poems by students at the Red Cloud Indian School in South Dakota. The college’s Honors Program hosts a series of seminars for program members each semester.
