Wrestlers Open up Season with Victory

The Alfred State College wrestling team opened up the 2009-10 season with a convincing 36-12 victory over Jamestown CC.  The Pioneers won eight of the nine matches wrestled.

JCC's only victory of the evening came in the first match at 165 lbs.  Alfred State quickly erased the 6-0 deficit with a 11-7 victory by Dan Steiger (Miller Place) at 174, a 9-0 victory by Dan Dwyer (LaFayette), a forfeit victory at 197 for Taylor Nelson (Somers), and a pin by Zach Rouse (Canisteo Greenwood) at heavyweight.

Cody Dill (Unatego) kept it going at 125 with a 21-6 victory to up the lead to 24-6 before ASC took a forfeit at 133.  Eric Shedden (Canton, PA) earned a pin 5:55 into his match at 141, Darren Whittall (Starpoint) won 6-1 at 149, and Shawn Hanrahan (Unatego) closed out the night with a 12-9 victory at 157 lbs.

The Pioneers return to action next Thursday (10/19) when they travel to Mercyhurst North East for a 7 p.m. dual match with the Saints.
