Megan Coates (Nazareth) hit a 10 foot jumper with four seconds left to lift the Alfred State College women's basketball team to a 72-71 victory over Cayuga CC on Tuesday evening. The Lady Pioneers improve to 2-1 on the year.
The blue & gold led 39-28 at half and led by as many as 19 before the Lady Spartans made a furious comeback and took the lead in the final minute before Coates hit the game-winner.
Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) continued her solid play to start the season by scoring a game-high 30 points. Coates and Danielle Conway (Bainbridge Guilford) each added 13 points for ASC.
The Lady Pioneers return to action on Thursday when they host the JV squad from Roberts Wesleyan. Opening tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. at the Orvis Activities Center.
