Pioneer Men Race to National Runner-Up Status

The Alfred State College men's cross country team finished as NJCAA Division III National Runner-Ups at the National Championship at Finger Lakes CC on Saturday.  ASC scored 70 points and trailed just SUNY Delhi's 22.

John Sweeney (Barker) led the way with a 3rd place finish.  He crossed the line of the 8k course in 28:05.  Brandon Lewis (Red Creek) was 10th (28:48), Joe Seitz (Williamsville) was 14th (28:52), Peter Francia (Greece Olympia) was 23rd (29:31), Alexander Farrell (N. Tonawanda) was 27th (29:38), Logan Drummer was 28th (29:39), and Derek Snyder (Bath) was 57th (32:12).

The 2nd place finish was the best finish for the Pioneers since 2001.

Mohawk Valley CC was 3rd (82), Erie CC was 4th (131), College of DuPage (IL) was 5th (149), Suffolk CC was 6th (171), Gloucester CC was 7th (190), Finger Lakes CC was 8th (209), Howard CC was 9th (210), and Cumberland CC was 10th (214).  105 athletes competed in the championship.
