Trio of Lady Pioneer Soccer Players Named All-Region

Submitted by WelkerPM on Thu, 11/05/2009 - 10:07am

A trio of Alfred State College women's soccer players have been named All-Region following the Lady Pioneers 10-2-4 season.  Shelby Winchester (Maple Grove) was named first team while Audrey Rath (Medina) and Mo Parks (Avoca) were named second team.

Winchester, a sophomore midfielder, had a solid season on both halves of the ball.  She chipped in three goals and four assists offensively and was also key to a defense that allowed just eight goals on the season.  Winchester, a second team All-Region selection in 2008, finishes her two year career with six goals and 11 assists.

Rath earned All-Region second team honors for the second straight season after anchoring the defensive backfield.  She helped the Lady Pioneers to nine shutouts on the season.  Offensively she added an assist and finishes her two-year career with two assists.

Parks was steady all season in net for the Lady Pioneers.  She was in net for 15 of the teams 16 contests and allowed just eight goals and recorded eight shutouts.  She made 109 saves in 1,400.5 minutes of action.  Parks had a 0.51 goals against average overall and a 0.45 goals against average versus NJCAA Division III competition.

Earlier this year, Winchester, Rath, and Parks were all named first team All-WNYAC.

The Lady Pioneers were ranked as high as #5 in the NJCAA Division III poll and advanced to the Region III Division III pool A semifinals.
