Swimmers Dive into New Season

The Alfred State College swim team dove into the 2009-10 season at Monroe CC on Wednesday evening.  The men's team fell 124-60 to the Tribunes while the women fell 96-35.

Ethan Wright (Clyde Savannah) and Cory Roberts (Marcus Whitman) were individual event winners for the Pioneers.  Wright won the 100 free in 53.89 while Roberts won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.27.  Tim Guarino (Cornwall) was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.72), Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point) was 2nd in the 100 back (1:11.93), and Wade Harrington (Campbell-Savona) swam the 500 free in 6:24.82.

The men's 400 free relay team also placed first with a swim of 3:47.02.

On the women's side Jessica Hetrick (Elmira Southside) won the 200 IM (2:39.72) while Ashley Andrus (Cuba Rushford) was second in the 100 back (1:11.89).  The 400 free relay team of Hetrick, Andrus, Kaylie Cytrowski (Hutch Tech), and Sabrina Dunning (Cuba Rushford) earned first place with a swim of 4:56.74.

The Pioneers dive right back into the pool on Saturday when they compete at the Genesee CC Invitational.  The short format meet begins at 1 p.m.
