Pioneers Rally for Big Victory

Submitted by WelkerPM on Thu, 10/22/2009 - 7:39pm

Trailing 2-0 in the second half, the Alfred State College men's soccer team scored three unanswered goals for a crucial Region III Division III victory, 3-2 at Genesee CC.  With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 7-5-1 on the year (6-5-1 Region III Division III).

The blue & gold trailed 1-0 at half and found themselves down 2-0 after a quick Cougar goal in the second half before mounting their comeback.

Koya Takadama (Fukushima, Japan) got the Pioneers on the board after getting a pass from Kevin Arilotta (Churchville).  Takadama tied the game a few minutes later after getting a helper from Justin Handley (Iroquois).

With 18 minutes remaining in the game Arilotta found Masanari Yamamoto (Tokyo, Japan) who scored the game winner.  The goal was Yamamoto's team leading sixth on the season.

In net, Dan Krajcir (Gloversville) made six saves to earn the victory.

Alfred State wraps up the regular season on Tuesday when they host Tompkins Cortland CC at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.
