Seven Pioneer Baseball Players Named All-WNYAC

Seven members of the Alfred State College baseball team have earned All-WNYAC honors following the Pioneers 8-6 fall season.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) and Jake Dale (Keshequa) were 1st team selections, Kyle Barkley (Penn Yan) and Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) earned 2nd team honors, and Steve Smith (Hornell), JP Frey (Erie, PA), and Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) were on the honorable mention team.

Ciccotti led the pitching staff this fall with a 3-1 mark in 34.2 innings of work.  He finished the season with a 0.52 ERA allowing just 25 hits while walking six and striking out 32 batters.  Opponents his just .197 versus him.

Dale led the Pioneer regulars with a .350 batting average (14 for 40).  He collected two doubles, eight RBI, and stole three bases.

Barkley hit .250 (10 for 40) this fall with three doubles, a triple , and seven runs batted in while Zimmermann hit .325 (13 for 40) with a double, three RBI, and four stolen bases.

Smith led the Pioneers with 13 runs scored and finished with a .298 (14 for 47) batting average.  He had two double, four RBI, and seven stolen bases.  Frey hit .250 (5 for 20) this fall while Ervay hit .267 (8 for 30) with two doubles and 3 RBI.

The Pioneers earned the #4 seed in the WNYAC Tournament and advanced to the semifinals of the tournament.

ASC returns to practice in early January 2010 and will open up their spring season in mid-March when they take their annual trip to Cocoa Expo in Cocoa, FL.
