Lady Spikers Advance to Corning Semis

The Alfred State College volleyball team advanced to the Corning CC Red Baron Tournament Semifinals and finished 3-2 on the day.  The Lady Pioneers are now 16-13 overall on the season and 14-12 in Region III Division III play.

The blue & gold defeated Broome CC (25-15, 25-22) to open up pool play.  Emily Linn (Portville) led the way with seven kills, three digs, and two blocks.  Brittany Haines (Salamanca) had 17 assists and 10 digs, and Kelly McDermott (Webster Thomas) chipped in eight kills.

Monroe CC rallied to defeat ASC in pool play (27-25, 15-25, 7-15).  Linn had 13 kills and 10 digs, Kelley Dumbleton (Warsaw) chipped in seven kills, Haines finished with 29 assists, nine digs, and four kills, and McDermott finished with 15 digs.

Linn continued her solid play in a three game win over Adirondack CC (25-13, 21-25, 15-13).  She finished with 11 kills, ten digs, and two aces.  Haines had 18 assists and eight digs, Dumbleton had six kills, and Rachel Hale (Batavia) served five aces.

In their final pool play contest, ASC clinched a spot in the semifinals with a 25-15, 25-20 victory over Jefferson CC.  Linn had 10 kills, five digs, and three blocks, Haines had 22 assists, two aces, and two digs, and McDermott picked up a team high 15 digs.

In the semifinals, ASC and Corning CC battled with the Red Barons coming out on top in three games, 16-25, 30-28, 16-18.  Linn finished with 14 kills, eight digs, and two blocks while Haines had 27 assists, 10 digs, and four kills.  Dumbleton chipped in nine kills and McDermott had 19 digs.

The Pioneers wrap up the WNYAC regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Erie CC to take on the Lady Kats.  Action at the Flickenger Center in downtown Buffalo begins at 6 p.m.
