Lady Pioneers Fall in Semis of ASC Tournament

The Alfred State College volleyball team fell 16-25, 25-21, 6-15 to Jamestown CC in the semifinals of the ASC Tournament and finished the day 2-2.  In pool play ASC won 25-23, 25-13 over Tompkins Cortland CC, fell 25-14, 24-26, 16-18 to Broome CC, and downed #9 Corning CC 25-23, 25-19.  The Lady Pioneers are now 11-11 on the season (10-10 Region III Division III).

Emily Linn (Portville) led the way versus TCCC with ten kills and two digs while Brittany Haines (Salamanca) passed out 20 assists and had four digs.  Shelby Gadsen (Olean) and Rachel Hale (Batavia) each had four kills and Kelly McDermott (Webster Thomas) served five aces.

Linn continued her solid play with a team high 13 kills, 11 digs, and four aces versus Broome.  McDermott finished with a team high 13 digs, Haines passed out 30 assists and had four kills, and Chrissy Nolan (Niagara Wheatfield) chipped in eight digs and four aces.

McDermott had a team high 18 digs in the victory over Corning while Linn finished with seven kills and seven digs.  Haines chipped in 20 assists and nine digs, Gadsen and Hale both finished with six kills, and Heather Gerace (Avon) finished with eight digs.

In the semis versus Jamestown, Linn pounded out 11 kills and was credited with 12 digs.  Haines finished with 19 assists and six digs, McDermott had 13 digs, and Kelly Dumbleton (Warsaw) registered four kills.

Jamestown CC defeated Erie CC 2-1 in the final to claim their third ASC Tournament championship in the tournament's six years.  JCC's Lacey Blocker was named tournament MVP and was joined on the all-tournament team by JCC's Libbie Rauh and Hannah Reynolds, Erie CC's Katie Boxler and Alex DiGiore, Alfred State's Emily Linn, and Corning CC's Nicole Conover.

The Lady Pioneers return to action on Tuesday when they host WNYAC foe Mercyhurst North East at 6 p.m. in the Orvis Activities Center.
