Baseball Falls in Semis

Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 10/03/2009 - 5:10pm

The Alfred State College baseball team could not overcome an early 4-0 deficit and stranded the tying run in scoring position in the 9th in a 4-3 loss to Monroe CC.  The Tribunes advance to the WNYAC finals while the Pioneers finish the fall season with a 8-6 mark.

Monroe jumped out to an early lead with two runs in each of the first two innings before Joe Wallace (Avoca) settled down.

ASC got back in the game in the 7th with three runs. Jake Dale (Keshequa) singled home a run, JP Frey (Erie, PA) doubled home a run, and Mike Graham (Horseheads) hit a sac fly.

The Pioneers put the tying run in scoring position in the 9th but could not get the big hit.

Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) was 2 for 3 while Dale was 2 for with a RBI.

Wallace tossed all eight innings. He allowed three earned runs while walking two and striking out three.

The blue & gold will begin the spring season in mid March with their annual trip to Cocoa, FL.
