Official Opening of Pioneer Stadium Gateway Building

Pioneer StadiumAlfred State College Pioneer Stadium was the place to be as college officials, student athletes, students, football fans, and honored guests gathered for the official “opening” of the stadium’s gateway building Monday night (9/21) as Alfred State College President Dr. John M. Anderson performed the ritual ribbon cutting. The Gateway Buildings consist of two buildings connected by a grand new entranceway. The buildings house concession stand, storage areas, locker rooms for officials, a ticket office, and restrooms.  The approximate cost of the project was $650,000 and completes phase three of the athletic complex. Pioneer Stadium is home to the Alfred State College football, men’s and women’s soccer, lacrosse, and the track & field teams.  Pictured here, l-r: Kenneth Maddox, NYC, men’s track, a mechanical engineering major; Therese Hubbel, a nursing major from Rochester, women’s soccer; Jessie Smith, a women’s soccer player from Fredonia, enrolled in individual studies; Anderson; and Doug Acomb, president, and Tom Leyden, secretary/treasurer, representing Babcock Enterprises, LTD, who built the gateway; Andy Smilinich, ASC capital project manager; Dean Hackett, representing Hunt Engineers who designed the building; Dr. Steven J. Tyrell, vice president for student affairs; Justin Clark, Alfred, men’s soccer, a construction management engineering technology major; and Justin Hanley, Marilla, men’s soccer, a mechanical engineering major.
