Pioneers drop a pair of 1-0 decisions

Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 09/12/2009 - 7:05pm

The Alfred State College baseball team dropped a pair of 1-0 decisions at Niagara CCC this afternoon. NCCC scored the winning run in the 6th in the opener and in the 7th in the nightcap.

In the opener, Joe Wallace (Avoca) tossed a six inning two-hitter but the Blazers scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the 6th on a wild pitch.  Wallace finished with six strike outs and four walks but took the hard luck loss.  Brian Ervay (Elmira Southside) and Brian Zimmermann (Frontier) each collected two hits for ASC.

NCCC loaded the bases in the 7th inning in the nightcap and scored the winning run on a sacrifice fly to complete the sweep.  Mark Ciccotti (Horseheads) allowed five hits and the one run in 6.2 innings of work.  He walked one and struck out seven.  Zimmerman was the lone Pioneer with multiple hits finishing with two.

The Pioneers (3-3) return to WNYAC action next Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader at Monroe CC.
