Lady Pioneers Fall To TCCC

The Alfred State College softball team played tough but couldn't defeat the #14 Tompkins Cortland CC in a Region III Division III doubleheader on Sunday.  The Lady Panthers earned identical 5-1 victories. 

In the opener, ASC had the bases loaded and the tying run up with one out but were unable to inch any closer.  Holly Fitzpatrick (Hornell) led the offense wtiha  3 for 4 day while Katherine McCarthy (Orchard Park) drove home the lone run.  Amanda Theleman (Whitney Point) went the distance on the mound allowing nine hits while striking out five batters.

In the nightcap, the Lady Pioneers were held to just three hits.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT), Leandra Spoor (Laurens), and Alicia McFarland (Avoca) singled while McCarthy drove home the lone run.  Jess Herbst (Naples) allowed 11 hits on the mound while striking out five.

The Lady Pioneers fall to 12-19 on the season and 9-10 in Region III Division III play.  They host Broome CC on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
