Lady Pioneers Can't Solve Tribunes

The Alfred State College softball team hung tough with the three-time NJCAA Division III champs, Monroe CC, but fell in both halves of a doubleheader on Tuesday.  MCC won by scores of 9-0 and 8-1.

MCC used a five run 5th inning to break open game one.  MCC's Lindsey Grace tossed a five inning one-hitter.  She walked one and struck out seven.  Jess Herbst (Naples) collected the lone hit of the contest.

In game two, the Pioneers trailed 4-1 heading into the 4th inning but couldn't muster any more runs while the Lady Tribunes capitalized and added to their lead with a single run in the 4th, two in the 6th, and one in the 7th.  Christina Loder (Brantford, ONT) drove home the lone ASC run with an RBI single.

Alfred State falls to 11-14 (8-6 Region III Division III) while Monroe CC, ranked #3 in the latest NJCAA poll, improves to 21-9.  The Lady Pioneers travel to Jamestown CC on Thursday for a scheduled 3 p.m. doubleheader.
