Men's Basketball Earns #5 Seed

The Alfred State College men's basketball team will be the #5 seed for this week's Region III Division II Tournament.  The Pioneers finished the regular season with a 16-13 mark and a 7-7 record in Region III Division II contests.

Alfred State will take on #4 Jamestown CC on Tuesday evening at the JCC Physical Education Building to see who moves on to take on #1 Monroe CC in the semifinals on Saturday (1 p.m. @ Monroe CC).

Alfred State and Jamestown CC split the regular season match-ups with each team winning on the road. 

• The Pioneers defeated the Jayhawks 73-59 on January 22nd behind a solid effort by the starting five.  All five starters finished in double-figures led by Dan Foley's (Irondequoit) 21 points and 12 rebounds.
• Just last Saturday, the Jayhawks clinched the home court for the first round by defeating the Pioneers 65-63 in overtime on a buzzer beater by Mark McAfee.  Cody Troutman was led JCC with 17 points including a clutch three-pointer that sent the game into overtime.  Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) led ASC with 18 points and 11 boards while Foley finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds on the day.\

Brannen, Foley, and Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) have been the offensive leaders for the Pioneers.  Brannen averages 15.5 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game, Foley is averaging 14.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game, while Wilson has 14.4 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

In the other first round match-up #6 Mercyhurst North East (5-9 in Region III Division II play) will travel to #3 Genesee CC (7-6 in Region III Division II play).  The winner of that match-up with take on #2 Erie CC (9-3 in Region III Division II play) on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Monroe CC.  Region III Division II Championship game will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Monroe CC with the winner moving on to a District play-off the following weekend.

The Pioneers are making their fifth straight trip to the Region III Division II Tournament and their eighth trip in Coach Jerry Jusianiec's ten years at the helm of the program.
