Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 01/24/2009 - 5:31pm

The Alfred State College men's basketball team battled Erie CC tough but fell 64-50 in a WNYAC match-up on Saturday afternoon.  ASC falls to 8-9 (2-3 WNYAC) while the ECC improves to 16-5 (3-2 WNYAC).

Tola Lawal carried the Kats with 11 for 20 shooting including 7 for 9 from beyond the three point line.  He finished with a game high 31 points and was the only Kat in double-figures.  Clarence Jackson chipped in eight while Steven Roberts and Ikyaator Msoo each finished with six.

Neil Wilson (Ft. Worth, TX) led the Pioneers with 15 points while Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) finished with 12 points, six boards, and five blocks.  Dan Foley (Irondeqouit) chipped in eight points, 12 rebounds, and six assists.

Alfred State led 20-10 with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half before Erie went on a 21-6 run to close the half.  The Pioneers would cut the lead to within a few points but never would regain the lead.  ECC connected on 12 three-pointers compared to ASC's two.

The Pioneers will look to get back on track on Tuesday when they travel to Monroe CC for a 8 p.m. battle with the Tribunes.
