Pioneers Lose in Final Seconds

Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 11/22/2008 - 9:27pm

Chris Noel connected on two foul shots with just over 10 seconds remaining to lift Jefferson CC to a 75-74 victory over Alfred State in the first round of the ASC Tournament.  Jefferson will take on Rockland CC, 82-67 winner over Dean College, on Sunday at 4:30 p.m. in the championship game.

Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) gave the Pioneers a 74-73 lead with 27 seconds remaining when he brought down an offensive rebound and scored.  Noel then drove into the paint and was fouled.  He hit the first foul shot and then connected on the game winner after an ASC timeout.  Alfred State had a couple opportunities as time expired but couldn't get anything to fall.

Noel led the Cannoneers with 23 points while Kadeem Nicholas finished with 22 points.  Dennis Oglesby also finished in double figures with 19 points and added eight rebounds.

Brannen had a big night leading the Pioneers with 24 points and eight boards.  Terell Williams (Rochester/Marshall) finished with 18 points and seven rebounds, Neil Wilson (Fort Worth, TX) chipped in 12 points, and Dan Foley (Irondequoit) finished with six points, nine assists, and 12 rebounds.

In the other first round match-up Rockland had six players finish in double figures as they downed Dean.  Angel Gonzalez finished with 12 points and 10 assists while Kevin Major chipped in 12 points and four assists.  Josh Hodge led Dean with 17 points.

Alfred State and Dean will tip off at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation game while Jefferson and Rockland will square off at 4:30 p.m.
