Wrestling Drops Close One

The Alfred State College wrestling team dropped a close WNYAC match 21-19 at Mercyhurst North East on Thursday.  The match was the first dual match for both teams on the season.

After dropping the first match of the night, Cody Lansberry (Kendall) earned a forfeit win at 157 to make it 6-3.  MNE took a 9-6 lead after a pin at 165 but the Pioneers re-took the lead 16-9 after Broncho Rollins (Ithaca) earned a major decision 20-9, Dan Steiger (Miller Place) earned a 4-2 victory, and Dan Dwyer (Lafayette) won 9-4 at 197.

The Saints regained the lead at 21-16 with a forfeit win at heavweight and a pin at 125.  Michael Gustafson earned a 3-0 win in the final match to make it 21-19.

The Pioneers return to WNYAC action next Thursday when they host Jamestown CC at the Orvis Activities Center.  Action is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
