Q & A With Dan Foley

Submitted by WelkerPM on Tue, 11/11/2008 - 2:20pm

In an ongoing attempt to help you get to know your Alfred State athletes, we sat down with sophomore basketball player Dan Foley and asked him a few questions.  One of only two returning players from last year's team, Foley averages 11.5 points per game after five games.

What are some of your personal and team goals for this season?  My personal goals are to help the team win in any way possible and earn a scholarship to play somewhere next year. Team goals are to win the Regional Championship, beat MCC and ECC, and advance to Nationals.

What attracted you to Alfred State?   I originally came for Track and Field.   I also wanted a state school close to home.

What are your plans for after Alfred State?   I hope to transfer to a school where I can continue my degree and also play basketball.

What do you do to get motivated for a big game?   I visualize what I need to do to be successful and focus on the task at hand.

How are practices different now that games have started?   We focus more on the mental and skill parts of the game now, because we play 3 or 4 times a week which takes a lot out of us.

As a sophomore on a team with mostly freshman, how do you take on a leadership role?   I knew how tough it was to be a freshman so I just try to help them as much as I can, whether it's learning the plays or adapting to college level basketball.  Also, I need to be a leader on the court to provide intensity, tempo, and experience.

Who has been your biggest influence?   My parents and 3 brothers, because they have supported me in athletics and everything else in my life.  Also Elaina Braun, because she is always there for motivation and encouragement.

Name 3 people, past or present, that you would like to meet.   Jesus, Danny Manning, Patrick Star
