Swim Men Win at Genesee, Women finish 5th

The Alfred State College men's swim team swam away with the top spot at the Genesee CC Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  The men scored 334.5 points ahead of 2nd place SUNY Delhi's 209.  The women finished 5th with 64 points out of six teams.

Alex Newell (Binghamton), Dan Langworthy (Peekskill), and Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda) were double event winners.  Newell won the 200 free (1:56.23) and the 500 free (5:25.12), Langworthy won the 50 free (23.52) and the 100 free (52.05), and Kozlowski touched first in the 100 back (1:03.74) and the 100 breast (1:07.31).

Kevin Minderlein (Mullica Hill, NJ) won the 1,000 free (12:19.84) and finished 3rd in the 500 free (5:53.82).  Aaron Mychack (Lansing) won the 100 fly (58.03) and finished 2nd in the 200 free (1:57.29).  Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell) was 2nd in the 100 back (1:05.79) and 3rd in the 200 free (2:03.45), Nathan Forrest (Royalton Hartland) finished 2nd in the 100 breast (1:09.21) and 4th in the 50 free (25.33), and Josiah Halbohm (Bemus Point) finished 3rd in the 100 fly (1:07.96) and 4th in the 200 free (2:09.07).

The men's 200 medley relay team (Valenta, Forrest, Mychack, and Langworthy) won in 1:48.02 while the 200 free relay team (Mychack, Valenta, Kozlowski, and Langworthy) touched in 1:35.27 to win.

On the women's side Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) won the 200 free (2:15.15) and the 500 free (6:14.47) and finished 2nd in the 100 fly (1:10.80) while Heather Sears (Letchworth) finished 3rd in the 100 free (1:05.16).

The Pioneers will be action again on Wednesday when they return to Genesee CC for their first WNYAC meet of the year.  ASC will take on GCC and Jamestown CC in the meet scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
