James G. Cretekos Appointed to Alfred State College Council

James G. Cretekos, Wellsville, has been appointed by the NYS Governor's Office to the Alfred State College Council.

Council members serve without salary as an advisory group to the president of the College.  Authority of the Council is in such areas as regulations governing student conduct, regulations concerning care and management of campus facilities, review of academic programs, approval of candidates for college degrees, and selection of the College president.

Cretekos is a retired professor of chemistry at Alfred State College (1960-1985) and had served as the president of the Alfred Chapter of UUP (United University Professions).  Prior to joining the Alfred State College community, Cretekos had worked as vice principal and science teacher at Whitesville Central School.  Currently, Cretekos serves as mayor of the Village of Wellsville.

He holds a BA from SUNY Buffalo and an MA from St. Bonaventure University; he served as a corporal in the US Army Medical Detachment, 1946-48.
