Lady Pioneers fall in Opener

The Alfred State College women's basketball shot just 28.4% (19 for 67) from the field and fell 54-47 to Broome CC in their 2008-09 opener.

Ayssa Polosky recorded a double-double, 15 points and 13 rebounds, to lead the Lady Hornets.  Aimee Kellicutt added 13 points and seven boards while Brittany Finkle chipped in 11 points and six rebounds.

Broome led 28-20 at half and shot 36.7% (18 for 49) from the field.  The Lady Hornets were slowed down by 29 turnovers.

Brittney Brooks (Elmira Free) and Ayana Rhodes (Buffalo/East Ridge)each finished with 11 points to lead the Lady Pioneers.  Brooks also added a team high eight boards.  Sherelle Brooks (Elmira Free) chipped in six points and four assists and Gina Moss (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) finished with six points and four steals.

The Lady Pioneers will look to even up their record on Thursday when they travel down I-86 to take on Corning CC.  Opening tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
