Johnson Racks Up Weekly Awards

Alfred State freshman DeAndre Johnson (Detroit, MI) earned two weekly honors as he led the Pioneers to a 55-24 victory on Sunday at Hartwick JV.

Johnson was named Region III male athlete of the week for the second time this season.  He was also named the Northeast Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week.  He is the third Pioneer football player to receive NFC Player of the Week honors this year.

Johnson was pressed into duty at quarterback throwing nine completions in 13 attempts.  He passed for 178 yards and four touchdowns.  Johnson also carried the ball 20 times for 208 yards and a rushing touchdown.  Johnson threw touchdown passes of 36 yards, 43 yards, 43 yards and 8 yards while his rushing touchdown came on a 23 yard run.

Johnson averages 6.8 yards per carry in six games for the Pioneers and his 109 yards per game is third in the Northeast Football Conference.  He also has five receptions this year with a average of 16.4 yards per reception.

The Pioneers are 3-3 on the season and hope to improve that record when they take on Lackawanna College on Saturday October 25.
