Big Second Half Leads Dean over ASC

Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 10/11/2008 - 3:44pm
The Alfred State College football team led 21-14 at halftime but Dean College roared out of halftime and scored 57 points en route to a 71-28 Northeast Football Conference victory.  With the win the Bulldogs remain undefeated (6-0, 1-0 NFC) while the Pioneers fall to 2-3 (0-3 NFC).

Geoff Hicks (Buffalo/Cleveland Hill) connected with Josh Griffin (Englewood, NJ) on a 19-yard pass play to give the Pioneers a lead just over four minutes into the game.  Dean tied it right up with a seven-play drive capped off by a seven-yard run by Andre Hayward to make it 7-6.

Hicks dove in from one yard out in the first minute of the 2nd quarter to give the Blue & Gold the lead once again.  Stanley Jennings tied it up with 5:50 remaining in the half on a 10-yard run.

The Pioneers took the lead into halftime when Dennis Thomas (Bowie, MD) picked off a pass and returned it 18 yards for a score.

Dean came roaring out of halftime and scored in the opening minute to tie the game on an eight-yard run by Randall Toney.  Jennings gave Dean the lead for good on a 27-yard scoring with 6:20 remaining.

The Bulldogs put the game out of reach by scoring four times in the final quarter following Pioneer turnovers.  DeAndre Johnson (Detroit, MI) capped the Pioneers scoring with a two-yard run before Dean scored twice more in the 4th.

Johnson recorded his second career 100-yard rushing game with 113 yards on 21 carries while Jeff Fabbrri (West Warwick, RI) chipped in 64 yards on five carries.  Hicks threw for 123 yards while Griffin caught four passes for 67 yards.

Jennings rushed for 156 yards and three scores and passed for 132 yards while Toney finished with 117 yards and a score on 13 carries.

Thomas led the Pioneers with nine tackles while Damion King (Detroit, MI) and Matt Perry (Belle Vernon, PA) each finished with seven.

Jonathan Ekp led Dean with 12 tackles while Curtis Weatherspoon finsihed with eight tackles and three sacks.

ASC will have to bounce back quick as they are scheduled to take on Brockport JV at 4 p.m. on Monday afternoon at Special Olympics Stadium.
