The Alfred State College community is gearing up for the celebration of Dr. John M. Anderson's inauguration as 11th president of the College. Several activities are planned in honor of the event.
Inauguration week (Oct. 13-16) offers the following:
On Monday, Oct. 13, at noon in the Allegany Room of the Central Dining Hall, Joseph Petrick, associate librarian at Hinkle Memorial Library, will speak on the inauguration theme, "Honoring Tradition, Embracing Innovation." Attendees will be treated to a light lunch. The community is invited to attend. Seating is limited to 60 people, so those interested in attending are encouraged to RSVP to Roxana Sammons at (607) 587-3930 or firstname.lastname@example.org, by noon, Friday, Oct. 10.
On Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 3-4:30 p.m., members of the Alfred State College Alumni Association Board will be scooping ice cream for students and staff alike, outdoors, between the Central Dining Hall and the Agriculture Science Building.
Also on Tuesday, Oct. 14, the campus community will show its spirit by wearing ASC-branded apparel from the College bookstore and decorating rooms and offices. ASC sports teams will wear their uniform jerseys to join the fun. The Campus Bookstore will be offering a 20 percent discount on all ASC imprinted items from Wednesday, Oct. 8, through Tuesday, Oct. 14, during regular business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, noon-7 p.m.).
Throughout the month of October, an art exhibit will be on display at the Hinkle Memorial Library gallery, featuring works by faculty and staff. A reception will be held Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Additional events planned for students include "art on the quad," where student clubs and classes will use chalk to draw temporary masterpieces throughout the walkways on campus. On Thursday, Oct. 16, the Student Gathering Place (CDH) will be the location for a caricaturist, a henna tattoo artist, and a film to be presented that evening.
The week will culminate on Thursday, Oct. 16, in the installation of Anderson at a ceremony in the Orvis Gymnasium at 2:30 p.m., which can be seen live on the Alfred State College Web site (www.alfredstate.edu). A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony.
