Men in 1st, Women 4th after Day One at Regionals

The Alfred State College track and field team had three individual event winners in day one action at the Region III Championships.  The men's team is currently sitting in 1st place out of the seven teams while the women are in 4th.

Reaghan Bulkley (Avoca) won the long jump with a leap of 4.89 m, Nathan Smith (Clymer) won the hammer throw with a mark of 43.30 m, and Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) won the javelin with a toss of 44.47 m.

On the men's side top finishes included, Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili): 2nd in the long jump (6.84 m), Corey Smith (Wallkill): 2nd in the 10,000 m (38.06.3), and Broncho Rollins (Ithaca): 4th in the Javelin.

The men's 4 x 800 relay team of Brian Zintel (Letchworth), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point), Michael Kaplan (Tri-Valley), and Hector Cuero (Middletown) ran a 8:11.1 to earn 3rd place.

On the women's side top finishes included, Rachel Shellman (Honeoye Falls Lima): 3rd in the 10,000 m (47:43.1) and Emily Fields (Red Creek): 3rd in the hammer throw (27.75 m).

The men's team has 50 points after the first six events followed by SUNY Cobleskill (47), SUNY Delhi (43), Erie CC (20), Herkimer CCC (12), Mohawk Valley CC (8), and Finger Lakes CC (4).

On the women's side Herkimer CCC leads with 53 points followed by SUNY Cobleskill (40), Mohawk Valley CC (38), Alfred State (25), Erie CC (15), Finger Lakes CC (10), and SUNY Delhi (5).

Action continues tomorrow at Alfred State with field events beginning at 10 a.m. and track events starting at 11:30 a.m.
