Campus is Saddened by Loss of Student
The campus community is saddened to learn of the death of Anthony Carino, who died Friday evening in a Rochester-area hospital. Cause of death has not been released by the hospital.
Anthony was a senior in Alfred State College's architectural technology program.
College officials-on behalf of the entire campus community-extend their deepest sympathy to Anthony's family and friends.

Today, April 15, at 5 p.m., the College will host a campus memorial service for Anthony Carino at the Lake Lodge. Anthony Carino, a senior in Architectural Engineering Technology, passed away on Friday, April 4. Friends of Anthony from Alfred State College and the local community are asked to join the Carino family in a program of remembrance that celebrates Anthony's life and the impact he had on so many here in the Alfred community.
Individuals needing transportation to the Lake Lodge can be picked up in front of the Victorian House. Transportation will be provided between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

The loss of Anthony Carino has been a difficult time for his family and his friends. It is important for his friends to work through how they respond to the loss of a close friend. If you know a student who may be struggling with dealing with their loss, please know that counselors are available at Counseling Services in the SDC (2nd floor). It may also be supportive to the student, if you walk them over to Counseling Services. Counselors can help individual students work through their feelings and how to manage these feelings in this difficult period of time. Students can stop by at anytime or call 587-4050 for an appointment.
April 8, 2008 8:28 AM - Transportation to Calling Hours and Funeral
The campus is deeply saddened by the recent death of Anthony Carino. In an effort to support friends, colleagues, and other members of the Alfred State Community who wish to attend calling hours and the funeral, the President's office is sponsoring a bus that will depart campus on Wednesday in time to attend calling hours (time and location TBA) and return to campus on Thursday, after the funeral.
If you wish to take advantage of campus transportation, please contact JoAnne White in the Office of Student Life at ext. 4371.
At this time, the costs of meals and accommodations are the responsibility of the traveler, but the Student Life office is working on possible alternatives. If you need accommodations, please inform JoAnne White of your need and if opportunities arise for low-cost or no-cost housing, assignments will be made in the order received.

April 7, 2008 2:31 PM - Message from ASC Health Services Regarding Rumors Circulating Associated with Death of Student
There are rumors circulating that there may be a health risk associated with the death of a student this past week. This morning Alfred State College Health Services was in contact with the physician attending the student and was reassured that there is no concern for contagion. Health Services has also been in close communication with the Allegany County Health Department, Monroe County Health Department and the New York State Department of Health who have confirmed that there is no risk of contagious disease for the campus community.
April 7, 2008 8:05 AM - Calling Hours for Anthony Carino
Calling hours for Anthony Carino are this Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. and from 7-9 p.m. at McHoul Funeral home in Hopewell Junction, NY. There will be a service and burial for Anthony on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. at the St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. For more information, you can contact the funeral home at (845) 221-2000. The College is working on securing transportation to calling hours on Wednesday and to the service on Thursday. This information will be posted later in the day.
Students, faculty, and staff have also requested a campus memorial service for Anthony Carino. The College will have more information regarding this program once it has had a chance to discuss this request with the family.

The College community is saddened by the loss of one of its students, Anthony Carino. Anthony died Friday evening at a hospital in the Rochester area. The cause of his death has not been released by the hospital. Anthony was surrounded by his parents, Antonio and Anna, his sister, Lisa (Interior Design, Alfred State College), brothers, Davey and Angelo, family members, students and others from Alfred State College at the time of his passing. Anthony was a senior in Architectural Technology. He was a good friend to many students. faculty and staff at the College and will truly be missed.
The College will provide information from the family in the days ahead regarding funeral arrangements. Counselors are available on campus today and Sunday for anyone who may wish to speak with them individually or to be available for students who wish to gather and remember Anthony. Counseling staff will be located t the Townhouse Commons this weekend. The College will also be in contact with the family regarding any future arrangements related to a campus memorial service. Please share in extending our thoughts and prayers for Anthony as his family and friends begin to work through this difficult time.

April 4, 2008 9:53 AM - Dr. Steven Tyrell Addresses Student Health Concern
Please be advised that an Alfred State College student was hospitalized on Thursday. There are rumors circulating the campus that the student has meningitis. Although the College cannot disclose the medical information regarding a student unless there is a public health concern, we can report that the student does not have meningitis and there is no health risk to the campus community.
