Baseball Sweeps Tompkins Cortland

The Alfred State College baseball team jumped over .500 with a home doubleheader sweep of Tompkins Cortland CC on Tuesday.  ASC scored a run in the 7th to win the opener 3-2 and then got the offense going in a 11-2 victory in game two.  The Pioneers are now 10-9-1 on the season.

Derek Speaker (Starpoint) singled home Kenny O'Brien (Norwalk, CT) with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning.  Speaker's hit was one of just three hits the Pioneers had all day.  Jeff Paul (Horseheads) finished 2 for 3 while Bruno Saraceno (Binghamton) drove home a run with a suicide squeeze in the 5th inning.

Craig Kosnikowski (N. Tonawanda) tossed a complete game one-hitter to improve to 2-1 on the year.  He allowed four walks and struck out two batters.

In the nightcap, ASC took full control of the contest with a four run 3rd inning to make it 7-1 and then added four more runs in the 6th inning.

Saraceno led the Pioneers 13-hit attack with a 3 for 4, 4 RBI day while Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) was 3 for 3 with an RBI.  Speaker was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and Kelvin Espinosa (George Washington) was 2 for 4 with a RBI.  Chris Fox (Mahopac) earned the win with six solid innings on the mound.  He allowed one earned run while striking out four batters.
