The Alfred State College baseball team began the Northern portion of their season with a pair of extra innings contests at Lackawanna College.  The Pioneers won the opener 7-5 in eight innings while the nightcap finished tied at 4-4 after eight innings.

In the opener, Jeff Paul (Horseheads) singled home the game winning run in the 8th inning.  Paul singled home Adalberto Vargas (Norman Thomas) who led off the inning with a triple.  Derek Speaker (Starpoint) added an insurance run with a single to score pinch runner Corey McEnroe (Millbrook).

Paul led the offense with a 3 for 4 day while Kevin Underhill (Somers) was 2 for 5.

In the nightcap, the game was called because of darkness after eight innings.  ASC led 4-2 after two innings but the Falcons scored two in the 5th inning to tie the contest.  The tie is only the Pioneers 2nd tie in Coach Tom Kenney's fourteen years at the helm of the program.
