Longenecker named Region Athlete of the Week

Longenecker goes for a pinAlfred State College wrestler Gallaway Longenekcer (Manheim, PA) has been named the Region III male athlete of the week.  This is the second straight week that an Alfred male athlete has been honored (Andy Omoregie - Indoor Track & Field).

Longenecker became the 27th Pioneer to earn All-American honors in school history this weekend.  Longenecker, wrestling at 133 lbs., advanced to the semifinals with a 10-6 victory over Michael Slaughter (Spartanburg) and by pinning Justin Dixon (Ellsworth).  He fell in the consolation bracket after falling 6-3 to Nick Mamalis (Western Wyoming) in the semifinals.  In the consolation semifinals, Longenecker fell 3-2 to Vance Beeson.  In the 5th place match, Longenecker finished his season with a 4-2 win over Scott Berens (Labette).

Longenecker finishes the season with a 20-4 record and finishes his career at A-State with a 46-12 record and seven pins.

Alfred State finished 8th overall in the NJCAA National Championships in non-scholarship action and 27th overall.
