Men's Basketball earns #4 seed
The Alfred State College men's basketball team has earned the #4 seed in this week's Region III Division II Tournament. The Pioneers will host a first round tournament contest on Tuesday evening versus #5 Genesee CC.
The Pioneers enter the contest with a 19-10 overall mark and a 8-6 record in Region III Division II play. They defeated Genesee CC 98-95 in overtime and downed Niagara County CC 92-79 in the final week of the regular season to earn the 4th seed.
Genesee enters the contest with a 12-15 overall record and a 8-6 record in Region III Division II play. They are coming into the tournament with a 1-2 record in their past three games. The Cougars downed Monroe CC 93-83 on Tuesday, fell to Alfred State 98-95 on Thursday, and then fell 68-67 to Jamestown CC on Saturday.
ASC and GCC split their two regular season meetings with each team winning on their home court.
The winner of this first round match-up will play #1 Erie CC on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the Regional Semifinal. The Regional Final Four will be played at Jamestown CC.
In the other first round match-up, #3 Jamestown CC will take on #6 Mercyhurst North East on Tuesday with the winner taking on #2 Monroe CC at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Orvis Activities Center.
Fans are encouraged to wear Gold Shirts to the game. Fans wearing a Gold shirt will be eligible for a raffle to win a gift certificate to the college bookstore.
