Men sit in 2nd, Women 3rd after day one of Swim Districts

The Alfred State College men's swim team trails Monroe CC by just 23 points after day one of three at the Northeast Districts.  The women's team currently sits in 3rd place.

The men's 400 medley relay team highlighted the day with an impressive win.  Alex Newell (Binghamton), Phillip Valenta (Maine Endwell), Brett Kozlowski (N. Tonawanda), and Dan Langworthy (Peekskill) was three seconds faster than Monroe and won in a time of 3:50.20.

Newell earned a 2nd place finish in the 500 free (5:04.20), Kozlowski was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:08.61), and Langworthy was 2nd in the 50 free (23.42).  Paul Congdon (Bath) was 5th in the 200 IM (2:18.22).

Jessica Chan (New Hyde Park) was 2nd in the 200 IM (2:33.00) and 3rd in the 50 free (27.29) while Becca Mastasio (Livonia) finished 4th in the 500 free (6:00.15).  The women's 400 medley relay team of Chan, Mastasio, Kaitlyn Corbett (Clarence), and Rachele Zanghi (Canandaigua) finished 3rd in 5:27.06.

The men have 113 points after day one and trail Monroe's 136 points.  The women have 84 points and trail Monroe's 207 and Genesee CC's 125.

Action is scheduled to continue all day Saturday and Sunday at Monroe CC in Rochester.
