Simpson Named Pre-season All-American

Alfred State College sophomore pitcher Becky Simpson (Campbell Savona) has been named a NJCAA Division III Pre-Season All-American.  Simpson is one of two pitchers on the 2nd team.

Simpson was a 2nd team All-Region selection for the 16-14 Lady Pioneers.  She tossed 105.2 innings and was 13-4 on the season with a 2.98 ERA.  She pitched two shutouts, held opponents to a .168 batting average and struck out 119 batters.

Simpson and the Lady Pioneers started the year off fast with a 14-3 record which vaulted them to the #3 spot in the NJCAA Division III poll.  Injuries slowed down the team and the Lady Pioneers qualified for the Regional tournament but couldn't advance past the first round.

Simpson will be key to first-year head coach Michael Caba's pitching rotation as the Lady Pioneers open up their season with their annual trip to Snowbird Softball in Myrtle Beach, SC.  The Blue and Gold's season opener is scheduled for Monday, March 17th.
