A-State in 1st place after first events of Regionals
Both the men's and women's indoor track and field team have at least a share of 1st place after the first two events of the Region III Championships.
In the pentathlon, Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili) finished 1st and Cedric Crowder (Gates Chili) finished 2nd. Omoregie ran the 60 m hurdles in 8.73, jumped 6.37 m in the long jump, leaped 1.98 m in the high jump, threw the shot put 10.12 m, and finished the 1,000 in 3:27.02 to earn 3,176 points. His point total is 3rd best all-time in ASC history. Crowder earned 2,988 points on the day. He ran the 60 m hurdles in 8.78, jumped 5.81 m in the long jump, leaped 1.65 m in the high jump, threw the shot put 11.38 m., and ran the 1,000 in 3:09.54.
Laura Anderson (Livonia) finished 2nd in the women's pentathlon competition. She scored 2,254 points to record the 2nd best performance in ASC women's indoor history. She ran the 60 m hurdles in 11.12, recorded a jump of 4.58 in the long jump and 1.37 m in the high jump, threw the shot put 6.84 m., and ran the 800 in 2:48.
The men's team has 30 points thus far in the competition followed by SUNY Cobleskill's 16, Erie CC's 12, and both Mohawk Valley CC and SUNY Delhi have 2.
The women's team is currently tied with Mohawk Valley CC and SUNY Delhi with 16 points. Cobleskill has 6 points and Erie has yet to score.
The Regional Championship of the 200 m dash will be held tomorrow at the Cornell Invitational while the remainder of the events to decide a regional champion will be run at Hudson Valley CC on February 17th.
A majority of the Pioneers will race at the Cornell Invitational tomorrow beginning at 10 a.m. in a final tune-up for the regional championship next weekend.
