Pioneers Fall in OT

The Alfred State College men's basketball team overcame a 17-point halftime deficit and sent the contest into overtime with a Dusty Marshall (Newfield) three-pointer with 2.1 seconds remaining but the Pioneers went ice cold in the overtime session (0 for 10 from the field) and fell 71-61 to Jamestown CC.  The Jayhawks improve to 13-12 on the year while A-State falls to 15-7 (4-3 WNYAC).

Jamestown led 40-23 at half but the Pioneers came out of the locker room firing and went on a 23 to 6 run in the first eight minutes of the half to tie it up at 46-46.  The lead changed back and forth and it looked like JCC was headed towards a victory with a five point lead, 61-56, with 1:47 remaining.  Jerome Hall (Cicero North Syracuse) hit a basket with 51 seconds remaining to cut it to three before Marshall tied it up with a three from the corner after getting a good pass from Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills).

Pat White (Warren, OH) led the Pioneers with 16 points while Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) came off the bench and finished with 13 points and seven rebounds.  Marshall chipped in 11 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists.

Craig Elston led four Jayhawk scorers with 15 points and 12 boards while Cody Troutman and Patrick Granjean each finished with 14.  Cory Aldrich chipped in 13 points, six assists, and five steals.

ASC shot 35.2% (25 for 71) from the field, 20% (4 for 20) from three, and 50% (7 for 14) from the line while JCC shot 43.3% (29 for 67) from the field, 31.3% (5 for 16) from three, and 47.1% (8 for 17) from the line.  The Pioneers were hampered by 22 turnovers including 15 in the first half.

The Blue & Gold return to action on Thursday when they host Erie CC at 7:30 p.m.
