Pioneers run well at RIT

For the second time in three weeks the Alfred State College track and field team had a strong showing at RIT.  On Friday evening, the Pioneers had several impressive performances as they competed versus mainly NCAA Division III competition.

Najia McGee (Edison Tech) continued her solid indoor season with 2nd place finishes in both the 55 m dash (7.44) and the 200 m dash (26..88).  Her time in the 55 m is the 3rd fastest in school history.

Reaghan Bulckley (Avoca) finished 2nd in the long jump with a leap of 4.92 m which ranks her 6th all-time at ASC.  In the same event Laura Anderson (Livonia) finished 10th (4.66 m) and McGee finished 11th (4.62 m).

Alvin Flemming (Eastridge), Andy Omoregie (Gates Chili), and Jermaine Thomas (Union Endicott), and Broncho Rollins (Ithaca) led the men's team. 

  • Flemming won the 55 m dash in 6.54 seconds (2nd fastest time in school history).  He also finished 4th in the 200 m (23.62). 
  • Omoregie won the 55 m hurdles (7.90) and the long jump (6.81 m). 
  • Thomas tied for 1st in the high jump with a leap of 1.87 m.
  • Rollins earned a trip to the NJCAA National Championships with a vault of 4.27 m.  He leap earned him 3rd place in the competition and 3rd place all-time in school history.

Rob Riley (Edison Tech) finished 2nd in the 200 m (23.62) and 4th in the 55 m (6.70), Dan Reynolds (Wayland Cohocton) finished tied for 5th in the high jump (1.77 m) and 8th in the pole vault (3.82 m), Keith Dziak (Buffalo/Bishop Timon) finished 6th in the 200 m (23.93), Tyrell Davis (Mt. Vernon) finished 6th in the shot put (12.85 m), Dan Fabiny (Wellsville) finished 7th in the 55 m (6.78), Cedric Crowder (Gates Chili) finished 7th in the 55 m hurdles (8.34), Zak Williamson (Rocky Point) finished 9th in the 5,000 m (16:29.40), and Nate Smith (Clymer) finished 9th in the weight throw (12.87 m).

The Pioneers will head to Cornell University next weekend.  A handful of athletes will compete at Friday's Region III Penthathlon beginning at 4 p.m. while most of the team will compete in the Cornell Invitational on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
