Submitted by WelkerPM on Sat, 02/02/2008 - 5:35pm

The Alfred State College men's basketball team had its chances versus #8 Monroe CC but couldn't overcome 35 turnovers and 15 missed foul shots.  The Tribunes held on for a 63-54 victory.

Fran Lantigua (Jamestown) led A-State with 12 points and nine rebounds from the bench while Cerrone Jackson (Forrest Hills) and Travis Brannen (Elmira Free) chipped in 10 each.  Brannen also grabbed nine boards.

ASC led 29-26 at half despite 17 turnovers and five missed foul shots.  The Tribunes took the lead early in the second half and led by as many as nine before A-State rallied to within three with just over two minutes left.  MCC closed the game out on a 9 to 3 run to seal the victory.

Lionel Sullivan and Tim Cokley each finished with 15 points for the Tribunes while Jonathan Moore had 11 points and six assists.

ASC shot 44.7% (17 for 38) from the field, 22.2% (2 for 9) from three, and 54.5% (18 for 33) from the foul line while MCC shot 36.8% (21 for 57) from the field, 18.8% (3 for 16) from three, and 69.2% (18 for 26) from the line.  The Blue and Gold held a 41 to 29 advantage on the boards.

The Pioneers (15-6, 4-2 WNYAC) will look to bounce back on Tuesday when they travel to Jamestown CC for a 7:30 p.m. tip versus the Jayhawks.
